How DietAisle handles your data
The short version: your meal plans, prices and product database live on your device and in your own account row. A few things leave your device only when you use the feature that needs them — a receipt photo when you scan it, your location when you tap "find stores near me". We show no ads, use no advertising trackers, and never sell your data.
Who we are
DietAisle is an independent UK web app. For anything in this policy — questions, access requests, deletions — email qcklexdev@gmail.com.
What we store
- On your deviceYour meal plans, shopping lists, scanned product database, prices, restock rules and settings are kept in your browser's local storage. They stay there so the app works offline.
- In your accountYour email address, a password (stored hashed by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see it) and a single record containing the same app data as above, so it can follow you across devices. Old devices keep their local copy until you sign out.
What leaves your device, and when
Nothing below happens in the background — each transfer is triggered by you using that feature.
- Receipt photosWhen you scan a receipt, the photo is sent through our server to Anthropic's Claude API to read the items. We don't store the photo, and under Anthropic's API terms it isn't used to train their models.
- AI meal plansWhen you generate a plan, your macro targets and food preferences are sent to the Claude API the same way.
- BarcodesWhen you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts (nutrition) and Open Prices (community prices). No account information goes with it.
- Food namesItem names from your receipts may be looked up against Open Food Facts and the USDA FoodData Central database to fill in nutrition facts.
- Your locationOnly when you tap "find stores near me", your coordinates are sent once to OpenStreetMap's Overpass API to find nearby supermarkets. It is not stored and not linked to your account. There is no background location tracking.
- Cloud syncWhen signed in, your app data record is saved to Supabase (our database provider) and fetched when you sign in elsewhere.
Hosting and analytics
DietAisle is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard server logs (such as IP addresses) to serve the site. We use Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and aggregate — it tells us things like page views, country and device type, and cannot identify you or follow you across other sites.
Fonts load from Google Fonts and one JavaScript library loads from the jsDelivr CDN; like any web request, those services see your IP address when the files are fetched.
What we don't do
- No ads, no ad trackersThere is no advertising and no cross-site tracking of any kind.
- No selling dataYour data is never sold or shared for marketing.
- No tracking cookiesSign-in state lives in your browser's local storage, not in tracking cookies.
Your rights and your data
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Most of it is already in your hands — it's on your device — but for anything account-side, email qcklexdev@gmail.com from your account email and we'll action it. Deleting your account removes your email address and your synced app data from our database.
We keep account data only while you have an account. If you just stop using DietAisle, your local data stays on your device until you clear it; your account data stays until you ask us to delete it.
Changes to this policy
If what the app sends or stores changes, this page changes with it, with the date above updated. Significant changes will be flagged in the app.
